What’s Your Bag? w/ Graeme Beckman
From left to right, top to bottom: two Sharpie S-gel pens, #2 pencil, financial calculator, AirPods, notebook, Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis, Poor Economics by Abhijit V. Banerjee and Esther Duflo, laptop, a notebook, The Cambridge Introduction to Narrative by H. Porter Abbott, No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai, The Tempest by William Shakespeare, and The Trial by Franz Kafka

M&L: What’s your bag?

GB: My bag is a satchel that was passed down to me from my dad when he attended school here. He graduated in 1991 with a degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration (LEJA).

M&L: What books are you carrying for school, and are you carrying a book that isn’t for school?

GB: I am carrying The Tempest by William Shakespeare, The Cambridge Introduction to Narrative by H. Porter Abbott, Poor Economics by Abhijit V. Banerjee and Esther Duflo, and Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis for school. I’m carrying two books that aren’t for school: The Trial by Franz Kafka and No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai.

M&L: Do you have a favorite pen, pencil, or notebook that you always carry with you?

GB: My favorite pen is a Sharpie S-Gel 0.5 Point. I always have one on me.

M&L: Besides the essentials (phone, wallet, keys), what do you never leave the house without?

GB: I cannot leave the house without my AirPods. I listen to music whenever I can; my favorite artist is Hozier. [Although], I never wear an AirPod when I am in class or around other people. I have poor hearing, so if I put an AirPod in, I struggle to keep up with a conversation.

M&L: What do you keep in your bag that you’ll never use?

GB: I keep pencils in my bag, but I don’t think I’ve ever used them.
