On Friday, September 20th, a group of poetry enthusiasts gathered in Malpass Library’s Garden Lounge to celebrate their favorite pieces with cookies and conversation.
Planned by Professor Barbara Lawhorn and librarian Michelle Simmons, the Poetry Garden Party became a space for students and faculty alike to revel in rhyme, venerate verse, and savor stanzas.
Some—including The Mirror & the Lamp’s very own Lydia Quattrochi—chose to read their own poems, much to the delight of fellow attendees. Others selected the work of famous poets that had touched them in some indelible way; the names of poetic friends appeared as often as those of illustrious poets past. Rilke and Joyce in particular were subjects of much discussion and adoration.
If you were unable to partake in this poetic outpour, never fear! The next Poetry Garden Party will be held at noon on November 8.
